Both classical and trendy: Chinese people’s poetic way of living.
Category:
【Brief Description】Everyone carries a Jiangnan in their heart. Jiangnan almost fulfills all Chinese people’s imaginations of a beautiful life and poetic dwelling. “Millions of households in Jinling, the capital of six dynasties,” “Thousands of miles of warbling orioles set green against red; villages by water and hillside towns flutter with wine banners in the breeze,” “Vague green hills stretch faintly, waters flow far and wide; as autumn ends, the grasses of Jiangnan remain undiminished.” Jiangnan is lush bamboo groves and moonlit pavilions, small bridges over flowing streams— it’s Kunqu opera and Pingtan storytelling, talented scholars and beautiful ladies—it’s a land of fish and rice, a paradise of peach blossoms... From the Late Tang Dynasty through the Song Dynasty and on into the Ming and Qing periods, only in Jiangnan could the Chinese transcend the politics of mere survival and embrace an aesthetic of living that would later be called “a way of life.”
