Everyone has a Jiangnan in their heart.

　　Jiangnan almost fulfills all Chinese people’s imaginations of a beautiful life and poetic dwelling.

　　“A million households in Jinling, the capital of six dynasties,”

　　“Thousands of warblers sing, their songs echoing through the green and red hues; in waterside villages and mountain towns, wine flags flutter in the breeze.”

　　The green hills are faintly visible, and the waters stretch far away; as autumn nears its end, the grasses of Jiangnan remain undiminished.

　　Jiangnan is lush bamboo groves and moonlit pavilions, small bridges over flowing streams— it’s Kunqu opera and storytelling, talented scholars and beautiful ladies—it’s a land of fish and rice, a paradise of peach blossoms...

　　From the late Tang Dynasty through the Song Dynasty and on into the Ming and Qing periods, it was only in the Jiangnan region that Chinese people could transcend the politics of mere survival and attain a lifestyle aesthetic later referred to as “way of life.”
