What is Tencel?
Tencel is the domestic name for this fiber, which is scientifically known as "lyocell fiber." Lyocell is a novel type of fiber produced by mixing wood pulp—primarily derived from coniferous trees—with water and the solvent amine oxide, heating the mixture until it’s completely dissolved, and then using a solvent-spinning process. It combines the softness of cotton, the strength of polyester, the luxurious feel of wool, and the silky touch and drape of real silk. When worn close to the skin, it feels exceptionally smooth and cool, and it also boasts excellent moisture-regulating properties, helping to reduce the breeding of dust mites.
The advantages of Tencel
1. Moisture-absorbing and moisture-wicking properties
Polyester fibers cannot fully absorb moisture, whereas Tencel fibers can absorb and release water thoroughly—its water absorption capacity is 1.5 times that of cotton. The primary reason for this lies in the groundbreaking controlled nanofibril technology used in its production: human sweat is absorbed and discharged through bundles of ultra-fine channels. Additionally, Tencel boasts exceptional moisture-wicking properties, which help keep the sleeping environment fresh and ensure that your skin remains optimally hydrated even in air-conditioned rooms.
2. Antibacterial property
Because Tencel promptly absorbs human sweat and releases it back into the atmosphere, the dry environment slows down bacterial growth and effectively inhibits the proliferation of mites, mold, and odors. Experiments have shown that bacteria grow approximately 2,000 times faster on other synthetic fibers than on Tencel.
3. Environmental friendliness
Tencel is derived from wood pulp and is 100% naturally biodegradable. The recycling process is as follows: wood pulp—Tencel—degradation—fertilizer. Its unique, eco-friendly fiber production process allows 99% of the solution to be recycled and reused.
4. Comfortability
The smooth, full surface and excellent absorbency of Tencel fibers make Tencel products particularly well-suited for sensitive skin. Many people often complain that rough fabrics feel uncomfortable against the skin—Tencel is the perfect choice to avoid this discomfort. Dermatological reports indicate that wearing Tencel products directly on the skin can significantly enhance comfort and boost feelings of well-being.
5. Insulation performance
Static electricity can be harmful to the human body! Prolonged exposure to an electrostatic environment can affect skin health and sleep quality. The generation of static electricity is closely linked to dryness, but Tencel naturally contains as much as 13% moisture. Combined with its exceptional moisture-wicking properties, Tencel prevents the buildup of static charges, allowing you to enjoy better sleep quality.
6. Toughness
A comparison of the dry and wet tensile strengths of Tencel reveals that, whether in room-temperature environments or after washing, Tencel consistently exhibits higher strength than other fabrics. This makes Tencel bedding relatively easy to care for, requiring no complicated washing or maintenance procedures.
